Staplehurst Bellringers Report August 2026

May I firstly thank all those readers who have said how much they enjoyed my article in last month’s Magazine about why I became a bellringer.  If this has whetted your appetite, why not pop up to the tower any Tuesday from 7.30 pm to find out more, or contact me on 07718 216762.

As reported in the July magazine, the Kent Young Ringers rang in the National Youth Ringing Contest in Nottingham on 4th July.  I am pleased to report that they came a very creditable second in their category in a contest which featured no less than 43 teams.  Clearly the future of bellringing in Kent is in good hands! Meanwhile, Adam Brady rang for the Ancient Society of College Youths in the prestigious National 12-bell Contest at York Minster on 20th June, but they, too, couldn’t quite do enough to take the winner’s trophy.

Usually August is a quiet month with many ringers on holiday.  Not so this year, however, as we have several visiting bands. On Saturday 1st August ringers from the neighbouring Tonbridge District will be holding a practice meeting from 10 am to 12noon.  Then the following Saturday, 8th, a visiting band will be ringing a quarter-peal, starting at 10 am and lasting about 50 minutes.  Finally, on Saturday 15th we will be ringing for a 1.30 pm wedding. This apart, we will be ringing for our regular Tuesday practice, the monthly advanced practice on Monday 10th and for Sunday services.
