May 2026 Magazine Letter

Dear Everyone,

There is a ring of six bells in the tower of the Church in my childhood village. They play a tune for five minutes every three hours and the tune is changed every few weeks. When I lived there, and for many years after, there was a villager who climbed the tower steps each week to wind the musical box which worked the bells. Sunday services had the ringers ringing in the conventional way. When the winder of the musical box became too old to climb the steps the music box was changed to work electronically. Before this I think it was the oldest of this type of bell mechanics in the country.

Things move on, however much some people want things to stay the same. In the same way some people thought the chimes would never sound the same and did not want the change, our lives change as we age from childhood to becoming adults. God has a purpose for each of us throughout our lives as we adapt, like the workings of the chimes, to each stage. We feel the same inside ourselves, but we change to the circumstances in our lives. Fortunately God gives each of us the ability to cope, sometimes with the help of others, to continue our lives. We need to thank God for all the good things in our lives and ask Him for help to cope with the difficulties we encounter. May He lead us through this life to His Eternal Kingdom.

Let us enjoy the Churches celebrations during May:- Rogation Sunday for the blessing of the crops, Ascension Day when we remember Jesus’ rising to Heaven, Pentecost or Whit Sunday when we remember the Holy Spirit coming to the disciples, Trinity Sunday when we think of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

God bless us always and in all ways.

Audrey
