Safe Anaesthesia Worldwide (SAWW)

THE CHARITY for October, November & December 2019

CHARITY SUNDAY 13th OCTOBER 2019

Doctor Roger Eltringham is the Medical Director of SAWW and it was he that developed an anaesthetic machine which doesn’t need electricity for use in remote parts of the world. It is also called a Glostavent. A normal anaesthetic machine costs £70,000, a Glostavent with an oxygen tank £13,000 and £3,000 without an oxygen tank.

In addition, the Charity also trains medical and technical staff in poor countries to safely deliver anaesthetic and to keep the equipment in working order.

To highlight just one of the places helped by SAWW. Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda received an oxygen concentrator for treating newborn babies. In addition, the hospital donated a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine which also helps babies and infants to breathe and 3 patient monitors. The Unit’s work has reduced child mortality from 50% to 15%, which is a wonderful outcome for the only hospital in the district providing free healthcare.

Please give as generously as you are able to this brilliant LOCAL charity, based in Marden.
