November 2025 Magazine Letter

Peace
November invites us to remember. As we mark Remembrance Sunday, we honour those who gave their lives in conflict and reflect on the cost of peace. This year, with so much disturbance around us and within, the longing for peace feels especially urgent.
Coming together can be healing. Sharing thoughts, listening, and creating space for reflection helps restore calm and connection. That is why I invite you to join a gentle Advent journey through the book Orbital by Samantha Harvey.
Orbital is a poetic meditation on light, movement, and belonging. It explores the themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love, the traditional pillars of Advent, through the eyes of astronauts orbiting Earth. As they float in silence and observe the planet from afar, they reflect on grief, memory, and what it means to be human.
Would it not be lovely if people formed their own house groups with friends, neighbours, family, or new faces? Each group can meet once a week during Advent to read a short excerpt, share reflections, and take part in a simple creative activity. Think of it as an Advent book club, warm, inclusive, and meaningful.
I have prepared a guidance pack with readings, prompts, and activities. No one needs to lead or prepare anything. Week one is a good time for groups to settle, and if you were open for newcomers, the host can let me know the details.
If you would like to receive a pack in any case, please contact me at allsaintsstaplehurst@enterprise.net
There will be information at the back of All Saints Church, and I am happy to email the information on request.
At the end of the four weeks, I will host a festive gathering to celebrate our return to planet Earth. If you have hosted a group, I would love to invite you and your group.
Let us remember. Let us hope. Let us journey together this Advent in search of peace.
Yours, Rev Silke
