Cream Tea Trail

Friends Cream Tea Walkers

Twenty-seven walkers of ages down to 4 years old assembled at Staplehurst Station on a sunny Sunday afternoon of 18th September to walk to Overbridge Farm.

Motivated by the promise of cream tea in the garden, the walkers negotiated the rather muddy path alongside the golf course which then crossed Clapper Lane and plunged into the hinterlands of Duckhurst Farm. After stiles, electric fences and brambles (which the Chair had valiantly turned out to trim back in advance) they emerged into the horse field at Duckhurst and then followed their noses to the first of the fields at Overbridge Farm. On arrival, they were greeted with tea, scones and clotted cream (and jam!) by host Dermot and his daughter Duana.

Having already expressed appreciation with enthusiastic appetites, the visitors were kind enough to leave a donation amounting to £157 to make a useful contribution to Friends’ funds, before plunging back along the path home.

The weather thankfully held even though the dark clouds above threatened rain.

A great time was had by all.

Dermot Budd,
Co-opted Friends Secretary
