Sunday Evenings at All Saints’, Staplehurst

Sunday evening services are not currently running.

A moment of calm in our hectic lives.

Each month at All Saints’, there are different quiet and reflective services at 6.30 pm that provide a space to draw near to God and the opportunity to find peace and perspective before the busyness of the new week begins. They are open to all, believers or those who find it difficult to believe, people at home in church traditions or those for whom they are new.

Each service attracts a small group of people for whom they are treasured moments of prayer and meditation and you are very welcome to come and experience one or all of them yourself to see if they might be helpful for you.

The Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month is centred around the symbolic sharing of bread and wine in memory of Jesus, who instituted this service more than 2,000 years ago. It follows the same format as the morning communion service at All Saints but has a quieter atmosphere and there is the opportunity to receive prayers for healing for those who would like this.

The Taizé Prayer on the second Sunday uses simple repetitive songs developed by the Taizé Community in France www.taizé.fr to still the mind and create a peaceful space for meditation. Thousands of people travel to Taizé each year to participate in this style of prayer and return refreshed and inspired and you are welcome to join us at All Saints to experience for yourself this way of drawing nearer to God through songs and silence (e.g. http://youtu.be/t4Svh-9ohg4)

Evensong is the traditional evening prayer of the Church of England and has been sung at Staplehurst for centuries so that the ancient words and songs can sometimes appear to flow effortlessly along and help create moments of stillness and peace http://youtu.be/s3nMhq4nmr4. This service on the third Sunday is between 45 to 60 minutes long and includes a thought-provoking sermon.

Compline is the night prayer developed over many centuries by Christian monks and nuns who wove together chants and solemn words to create a very special and peaceful atmosphere. This service on the fourth Sunday is only 30 minutes long and includes readings from the Christian mystic tradition.

Please email All Saints’ Church Office if you would like further information or just come and experience them for yourself and feel free to ask any questions you like at the end of the service.
